Amritsar : As part of the Punjab Government’s campaign ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ (War Against Drugs), aimed at eradicating drug abuse and encouraging youth to stay away from drugs by promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle, the District Administration Amritsar is organising a special marathon on November 6. The marathon will commence at 8 AM from Guru Nanak Stadium, Amritsar, with a three-kilometre route finalised for the event.
Sharing details, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh said that the marathon would start from Guru Nanak Stadium and pass through Novelty Chowk, Narula Palace Light, Taylor Road and Alexandra School before returning to the athletic track at Guru Nanak Stadium, where it would conclude.
He further informed that committees comprising officials from various departments have been constituted to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the marathon. These committees will oversee the overall arrangements, route management, security, healthcare facilities and other necessary preparations. The District Administration will also make special arrangements for refreshments for the participating runners.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the fight against drugs is not merely the responsibility of the government or administration but a collective responsibility of the entire society. Such sporting events play an important role in creating health awareness among youth and motivating them to engage in constructive and positive activities.
He appealed to the youth, sportspersons, students, social organisations and people from all walks of life in the district to participate in the marathon in large numbers and contribute towards building a drug-free Punjab.
